Under Eye Care
Share
Every single day we have people come in asking what they can do about their under eyes. Whether its dark circles, puffiness or fine-lines and signs of premature ageing, everyone has something they are unhappy about when it comes to their eyes. So what is it that causes these concerns and what can you do about it?

The skin under our eyes is the thinnest and most delicate on our face. Because of this it is very sensitive to environmental stressors and is often the first sign that our bodies are lacking something, whether that’s sleep, nutrients or something else altogether. There are many things that can affect the skin under and around our eyes; some of which are outside of our control, such as genetics or skin-tone, and others about which we can be more proactive. For example, diet, hydration and sleep play a huge factor in the appearance of our under eyes. We are all guilty of it, but it bears repeating here, sometimes before you go looking for a miracle cure, try drinking more water!
That said, we’ll be the first to admit that although we might try our best, it’s definitely not always possible to be the perfect self-care girly. When beauty sleep feels like a distant memory or we just can’t seem to shake those dark circles, it’s time to turn to our tried and true eyecare recs! So let’s take a look at the most common issues people and our suggested treatments.
Puffiness
Puffy and swollen eyes can be the cherry on top of a groggy winter morning. And just as we crave our first sip of a warm latte in the morning, so too can our eyes benefit from a hit of caffeine first thing. Eye patches which contain caffeine help to reduce inflammation, and if you think you could do with a double-shot go some that contain ginseng which is another great anti-inflammatory.

Dark circles
Dark circles can truly feel like the bane of our existence. They can be notoriously stubborn to get rid of, but with consistency and the right products they will improve over time. The best way to tackle this bothersome trait is with a two-pronged approach. In the morning try using products that will brighten the skin, such a serums or creams containing niacinamide, peptides or kojic acid. Then in the evening focus on more potent actives like retinol or bakuchiol. It’s important to note that those with more sensitive skin should be careful here, as the skin around the eyes can be particularly fragile. Baby steps can go a long way.
Wrinkles/fine-lines
Around our eyes is often the place where people first notice signs of aging such as fine-lines. We recommend tackling this by focusing on hydration in the morning, such as serums containing hyaluronic acid, or creams with peptides and ceramides. Then in the evening we once again call upon our good friend retinol (or retinal, or bakuchiol). Pair this with a cutting edge active like PDRN for the best results.

We won’t pretend that caring for your under-eyes is easy. But with a healthy lifestyle, the right routine, consistency and realistic goals, you will see results. And as always, follow Sissel’s golden rule: never forget your SPF! More often that not, the best solution is prevention.
